girl-ish
By Elizabeth Purvis It was only a matter of time before I bought a backpack purse. I scoured the Internet for a blue and brown leather satchel that would match everything and finally found one on Ebay. Sure, I questioned what I was about to do, because the shipping alone cost 20 USD. But since I am compulsive and it was still under 50 USD, I bought it. Why? Because Seinfeld has made me want to be Elaine Benes. I watch Seinfeld with my boyfriend every night and obviously Elaine has made a big impression on me. I mean, I spent 40 bucks on a random backpack purse because I loved how it looked on her. She wore the same purse with casual wear, formal wear, blazers, gym clothes, etc. I love how she dresses not only from a fashion aspect, but that it makes her even more relatable and endearing. As I walked around the city with my purse, I realized that this particular style of handbag is actually a pain to use in real life. You open it by pulling on a drawstring and then unlocking the buckles only to repeat the process in reverse when you're done using it. Mine is made out of jean material and sags a lot when you put stuff in it. Come to think of it, you never see Elaine using her bag. It's an accessory, not something she's actually using in the show. After a week of toting the bag, I feel cute and relaxed walking around a city where women wear designer duds from head to toe. I don't feel like the intended purpose of looking like my 90's idol Elaine Benes has been accomplished but I do feel confident. That's who Elaine is, and while I don't have her look, this bag has added to my personal style.

Hi! Elaine's bookbag was Dooney and Bourke. High quality leather that lasts decades. It's worth it to get the real version because it's still in style now more than ever
