QUERIES
Interested in writing for us?
Great! First things first, pitch your idea to us via e-mail. Include a brief summary of your idea, the date you plan to submit the completed product, and your interest-level in becoming a regular contributor. If your work is accepted, we have the right to edit a final product for length and style as we see fit. But we promise, the voice of your piece will not be lost--your contribution is YOURS, not ours. After you've made initial contact with us, please send all pitches to BOTH c[email protected] and kile[email protected].
Why become a regular contributor?
Internet fame! Having your voice heard! Regular contributors have submitted work posted 1-4 times a month (or more, if you’re feelin’ froggy) on a yearly calendar. Our “regs” have a short biography and photo featured on our “Contributors” page and all articles are archived. Regular contributors are not compensated with money, as Girl-ish is a place for sharing personal experiences for the good of growing a community. If your work is accepted and you become a regular contributor, we require a calendar with a regular schedule of your submissions, to be followed exactly as you designate in said calendar. If you’re accepted as a regular contributor, but fail to post at least once a month for more than 2 months, your bio/photo will be taken off the Contributors page.
I’m not ready to be a “reg,” but I have something to say!
That’s awesome too, and we want to hear it. Pitch us your idea, following the above criteria. If your work is accepted, but you plan to submit less than 1 time a month year-round, you will not be featured on our “Contributors” page, but will have a leg-up for future submissions. A short bio of 2-3 sentences and a picture should be submitted with your article, and will be featured ONLY within the article you wrote.
*All articles must be 750-1000 words in length*
Excluded from this are our Style Stars, DIY’ers, Beauty posters
GUIDELINES
Fashion
Fashion is one of our mixed-media categories. This means we want words and photos displaying your unique sense of style. We are looking for high-quality photos of you in your outfit as well as the individual pieces in your outfit (while you’re still wearing them)--it’s the little things that really pull the look together. Always include the brand or designer of everything in your post as well as the approximate price of each item. We do not expect a focus on high-end or designer brands, nor do we expect you to make a red-carpet gown out of Goodwill t-shirts. Be you and display YOUR style. Take a look at the format of our current Fashion contributors to see what we are looking for as far as layout and the number of photos and words to include in your post.
IRL: In Real Life
This is the time to be straight up. Whether it’s about relationships (of any kind), career, education, or simply being a girl in her 20’s, be raw, be honest, be relatable. And throw a few laughs in there. Don’t be a Negative Nelly. Be a Positive Patty. We will also accept DIY fails or successes for this section!
Pop Culture
This section runs the gamut from TV and film to music to books to anything celebrity-related. Want to write a weekly review for the new episodes of your favorite show? Awesome! Want to curate a playlist? Great! Want to write an article about why you love a certain celebrity? Fantastic! Want to throw it back and write about your favorite television show of yore? Wonderful! Want to discuss ANYTHING related to pop culture? PERFECT.
Health/Fitness
Concerning matters of the body, our readers want to hear from a trusted, qualified source. If you are a medical doctor, student of medicine, a certified personal trainer, student of physical fitness, or work in the health or fitness field in any capacity, you are right for the job. Since the majority of our readers are in their 20’s, please submit ideas pertinent to this demographic. Follow our Queries/Guidelines for all the necessary information required for your submission.
Beauty
Whether it’s your favorite blush or must-have drugstore mascara, do a short write-up complete with photos of the product or, even better, of YOU wearing the product. This section will always focus on ways each of us can enhance our natural beauty!
