girl-ish
By Jessica Tincher of Rose Colored Glasses When I was a little girl, I idolized my Memaw, who was for all intents and purposes the epitome of class. She managed a country club, and was given an annual budget from her employer to buy clothes, which seemed so glamorous to me then (and now probably even more-so). She had personal stationery and all the right handbags, and was more or less what my elementary school self aspired to become. The thing about her that I deemed the classiest though, was the very distinctive way that she smelled. You see, Memaw very exclusively wears Chanel ⁰5 perfume. Have you had the pleasantry of smelling that stuff? If not, get in your car and go to the nearest Macy’s Chanel counter, and do so ASAP! Chanel ⁰5 is what I picture my glamorous future closet and all of my colored cashmere sweaters will smell like. Keep your Love Spell, Chanel ⁰5 is just how women are supposed to smell. Although this scent is one of my favorites, I’m not quite ready to call it mine. Much like Holly Golightly’s view on diamonds (re: Breakfast at Tiffany’s), I believe that Chanel ⁰5 is too sophisticated for someone my age. For my 40th birthday though, all I want is Chanel ⁰5! For me, class can be summed up in a scent, but this seemingly simple word can carry many different connotations. Girl-ish fans from around the country and all different walks of life are ready to share some notes about what they think defines “class” for the generations before us:
