girl-ish
By Christie Gleason Some girls have it all figured out, at least when it comes to fashion. I always wonder about those girls- the ones that have perfected their "look" and somehow have a wardrobe that goes accordingly. Whether they're the masters of the "off duty model" look or are bohemian hippie chicks, I envy their streamlined wardrobes that just seem to scream, "Yep, I know myself and my style. Look at my closet full of things that perfectly represent ME!" Why am I jealous, you ask? Because my style is a hot damn mess. I'm the first to admit that I love clothes and fashion as much as the next girl, but I've always struggled with finding my "look", so to speak. While many girls could probably use a word or two to categorize their personal style, I come up with a jumbled list of influences and random words like 'fluffy sweater'. My sister has described my style as "eclectic" and I think that's pretty fitting, considering that anything goes when it comes to the pieces that I fall in love with. (Now as a disclaimer, I would like to say that I'm no fashion plate or supreme style queen. I pretty much want to wear a full sweatsuit 24/7 but I draw the line at wearing it out of the house. I like to look cute in public! *hair flip*) To help me in my quest to personal style nirvana, I have decided to write a little series about my style influences, which will be broken up into four parts. I guess I just wish that my style was a little more definitive. Sometimes it feels weird to wear something really frilly and girly one day and the next day want to wear all black with my leather jacket and burgundy lipstick. I've come to terms with my eclectic taste and through this series I am finally putting adjectives to different aspects of my style. Are you excited yet? You should be because up first we have Classic/Minimalist! (I feel like there should be music that plays right now, like one of those songs they play before professional sporting events or in the movie Space Jam. I just want you guys to be pumped up to talk about steeeeze.) There are so many things I love about the Classic look. It's timeless, it's chic, and most importantly, it's EASY. If you stick with neutral colors and simple and classic silhouettes, you're guaranteed to look super fly. My go-to classics in my closet are black high-waisted skinny jeans, a loose black and white striped top, a black blazer, black ballet flats and red lipstick. I also love the classic all-black ensemble and a more fresh modern spin of all white errythang. I love white jeans paired with a cotton white v-neck tee and a cream/tan blazer, as seen to the right. These classic looks are so easy to throw on before you leave the house and even if it took you two seconds to get dressed, you are guaranteed to look put together and stylish. I personally love to add a little pop of something to an all-neutral outfit, whether it's a bold lipstick or fun shoes, like the leopard pair shown below. The Classic/Minimalist look greatly influences my style on the days where I want to feel and look low-key glamorous. Sometimes I just want to feel like an effortless movie star and this timeless style helps me achieve that. (Am I alone in sometimes wanting to feel like a movie star in my normal life? I can't wait to explain more of my fashion moods to you guys. You're going to think I'm so weird.) A post about classic and minimalist fashion wouldn't be complete without giving recognition to the most timeless and chic ladies of them all, the lovely Audrey Hepburn. I just want to be her.
